在太巴朗的阿美族部落流傳的祖先乘著大木臼漂流的傳說，是他們認同的故事；
內容是這樣的：有一天忽然起了大洪水，把整個大地淹沒在一片汪洋當中，所有的人不是被洪水淹死，就是被洪水沖走，洪水像一個瘋狂的野獸，翻捲怒吼。有一個女孩名字叫做杜吉，在驚濤駭浪中，匆忙地帶著弟弟拉拉幹，跳進一個長形的獨木舟中，經過好幾天，令人驚恐的浪濤終趨於平靜，姐弟兩人在海上隨波漂流，最後看到了可以靠岸的陸地，這個地方叫做吉拉雅善，也就是今日豐濱的野津山。
歷經艱難的這對姐弟為了繁延子孫，而結為夫婦，生下很多很多子孫。
至今太巴朗的阿美族人都知道祖先曾登陸在吉拉雅善這個地，在花蓮縣的豐濱鄉東昌村，據說還保存當年杜吉帶著弟弟在海上漂流的獨木舟呢！
