噶瑪蘭族的語言、音樂及文化，目前僅剩下花蓮新社的噶瑪蘭族人還保存少數的傳統民歌。
這些保存下來的祭歌，歌詞用語相當艱深，但是曲調都非常簡潔。這也是噶瑪蘭人歌謠中保存較為完整的部份。
陳淑均在《噶瑪蘭廳志》中記載當時噶瑪蘭族歌舞歡樂的情景：「每秋成，會同社之人，賽戲飲酒，名曰做年，或曰做田。其酒用糯米，每口各抓一把，用津液嚼碎入甕，俟隔夜發氣成酒，然後沃以清水，群坐地上，或木瓢或椰碗汲飲，至醉則起而歌舞。無錦繡，或著短衣，或袒胸背，跳躍盤旋如兒戲狀。歌無常曲，就現在景作曼聲，一人歌，群拍手而和。番婦見漢人至，則酒滿斟以進客，惟盡辭之不飲為妙。倘前進者飲，後進者辭，遂分榮辱，必有所計較矣」。
