噶瑪蘭人對於祭祀過的香蕉樹幹有許多禁忌，最嚴重的禁忌就是不能從上面跨過，否則會造成纖維斷掉，不能取其纖維絲來織布。此外，如果有喝酒習慣的婦人，在一天開始織布的時候，也要先祭告祖靈一番。
世界上香蕉纖維編織除了琉球、菲律賓之外，噶瑪蘭族之香蕉纖維編織，也是一項珍貴的傳統技藝，呈現原始的民族工藝藝術，更是台灣原住民族文化的瑰寶，其所代表的文化價值意義，不但是延續噶瑪蘭族群文化的生命，更成為該族的文化圖騰。
