傳統對儀式的強調，可以說是賽夏族文化表現的主要特性。各種不同的祭儀，結合神話傳說，配合獨特象徵物的運用，形成文化信仰、價值觀和集體記憶的核心。而各個姓氏也透過祭典中的參與操作和分工角色的扮演，凝聚出強烈的認同感和族群意識；這也是賽夏文化在不斷面臨外界的強勢壓力，還能一直傳承延續的重要基礎。即使時代改變，許多文化特性因應時代，變遷而逐漸被替代，但大部分的信仰仍然存在，傳統祭典也都在積極運作。或許祭儀過程和內容，隨著時代變化而有變動；不過，對祖靈和矮靈敬畏崇拜的信仰根源，仍然不變，這對賽夏族人來說，具有最重要的文化意義。目前賽夏族人還固定舉行的重要傳統祭儀。如下：
巴斯達隘（矮靈祭），是現今最受外界矚目的賽夏族文化表徵。因為和祭典相關的神秘傳說故事，四天三夜盛大的歌舞儀式。族人對矮靈們感謝與追思，從賽夏族人由各地趕回參加祭典，且虔敬的遵守儀式禁忌可以看出來。巴斯達隘（矮靈祭）舉行的時間現在大多固定在農曆十月中旬，也就是第十個月圓的時候舉行，每二年舉行一次小祭，每十年一次大祭。
