賽夏族

神話背景

賽夏族的遷徙發展，由於缺乏文字記載，只能從口耳傳說與分佈地的開發史學中，大致可以知道在賽夏族人流傳的口述歷史中，瞭解早期的賽夏族的活動範圍很大，涵蓋苗栗、台中交界的遼闊山區和海岸平原地區;由於陸續受到泰雅族人、漢人擴張勢力的壓迫，大約是在200多年前輾轉退遷至現今居住區域，目前賽夏族依居住地理的差異，劃分為南北賽夏兩大群 ;

南賽夏主要聚落分佈包括

• (1)南庄鄉東河的東河社區、鵝公髻山、大竹園、三角湖、加拉灣、中加啦灣、向天湖等地。
• (2)南庄鄉蓬萊村的蓬來、八卦力、大湳、大坪、二坪等地。
• (3)獅潭鄉百壽村的百壽社區、馬麟、圳頭、崩山下等地。

北賽夏主要聚落分佈包括：

• (1) 大隘村的五峰、上大隘、高峰、茅圃等地。
• (2)花園村的比來附近。

南北群的地理位置因行政區域劃分不同，週遭的人文環境也有差異，南賽夏群多環繞在客家聚落之間，與客家人接觸比較頻繁，文化也明顯受影響，北賽夏族則長期與泰雅族部落混居，受泰雅文化的影響更為強烈。根據2006年人口調查，賽夏族人人數增加至5402人。
